MONTROSE, Colo. (KJCT) -- A new addition is in the works for the Montrose Business District.

A nearly empty lot off Townsend Avenue and South 5th Street by Montrose High School is set to become a shopping center called Towne Centre.

“To attract new businesses but also attract people looking to move to Montrose that they will want to come here because we are cleaning up, some run down parts of town," said Jim Elder who is a partner is the building project.

Owners hope that construction will revitalize the area and give a boost to the Montrose economy.

Most of the buildings in the area are revamped house built in the 1960s and don’t have modern building accommodations, such as ADA accessibility, Elder said.

Jimmy Johns and the Coffee Trader are just a few of the businesses that are intended to occupy the complex.

On the lot initially.a small brick building was occupied by a hair style salon and alternative smoke shop.

Elder said they plan to start construction in the coming weeks and the complex should be completed by winter of 2017.
