Uptick in porch pirates in Montrose

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT)-- Montrose County Sheriff's deputies are on the lookout for porch pirates after they say they've seen an uptick in package thefts...One resident caught a thief on camera.

In the video, the thief seems to blatantly take two packages from the staircase.

Officials say that around the holiday season more folks do online shopping, attracting more and more thieves.

Now, they're using bait packages with GPS trackers to help find the culprits.

"In a way I feel bad for them. I don't know their situation but everyone I feel has the ability to have their own money. So to just have no feeling to just 'oh yeah i'm going to take their packages, that makes me super mad ,” says one Montrose Resident Danielle Scouden.

If you or someone you know have had your mail stolen, you can also report it to the WestCo Regional Dispatch center.
