GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Mesa County Libraries is a finalist for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

The Mesa County Library is the only library in Colorado to be nominated for this award. Mesa County Libraries Executive Director, Michelle Boisvenue Fox, said “this was a huge honor and wants to thank the staff, volunteers, and board who have helped cultivate this environment that have helped get the library to this point”.

Fox says once the final decision is made they will pick six to ten award winners that would be evenly split between museums and libraries. Fox continues saying “So what we were told as a finalist is that the decision on the award winners is based on our original application, and the community letters of support that we submitted with that application. So they won’t be considering any other thing outside of that. Personally, I think that makes sense. We’re up against some really large library systems. So they would have a lot more depth and network.”

Mesa County Library extends it’s gratitude to the community especially those who submitted a letter of support. The winners of the medals are speculated to be released on May 21st.

The article will be updated with the winners once the names are released.
