Independence Pass closed to overlength vehicles
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office had reported Wednesday afternoon, that Hwy 82 over Independence Pass was closed due to mudslides. The PCSO had sent out traffic alerts on their social media pages warning motorists to not use this route.
Colorado Department of Transportation is now saying Hwy 82 over Independence Pass is open to passenger vehicles, but overlength vehicles are not allowed on the pass.
CDOT and Colorado State Patrol have crews screening overlength vehicles and commercial trucks, to ensure they are not too big or long to travel on Hwy 82 over Independence Pass.
