2021 CHSAA Track & Field Championships
Recapping the Boys and Girls State Meets
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The Colorado State Track and Field Championships wrapped up on June 26th and several student athletes won State Titles for their schools on the Western Slope.
The Cedaredge Bruins won the Team Title in Class 2A. The Bruins dominated all weekend in relays and won two more on Saturday, taking the 400m relay with a team of Megan Jenkins, Ellison Black, Aspen Furubotten and Kylee Terry along with the 1600m relay. Megan Jenkins also won a title in the 300m Hurdles with a time of 46.20 seconds.
In 4A, Justin Blaton of Grand Junction Central won the 400m at 47.84 seconds. To make him the State Champion of the event, while also coming in second in the 100 meter dash. Justin’s 47.84 in the 400 was the fastest time among all classifications over the weekend. Also the central boys 4x400 team of Blanton, Nicholson, Stogsdill and Leblow finished the weekend at 5th. Landing the team with a 6th place overall finish.
Both of the 4x800-meter relay teams for Fruita Monument entered the state championships with the seventh-best time in Class 5A. The wildcats’ girls team maintained their seed and finished seventh. With the team of Jadyn Heil, Lauren Geer, Ella Unrein and Elaina Arcand. The Fruita boys 4x800 relay team of Adan Flores, Gannon Seacrest, Kien Cogley and Mcginley Zastrow finished ninth in 8:11.67, only .61 seconds behind the eighth-place Rocky Mountain.
In 1A, De Beque getting some State Champs as well. Wesley Ryan won 1st in High Jump and in the 100m. Trevor Lewis came in first in the 1st 800m and 1600m. While Jaden Jordan won the title in Long Jump.
Again, with most of our local schools having some form of representation at the State Track Meet we would like to congratulate everyone for making it to states!
