GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The Delta Police Departments says that the Delta Walmart was evacuated on New Year’s Eve after a bomb threat was made at the store.

Police say a suspect, identified as Gabe Smith, 35, of Delta, allegedly took a radio from a Walmart associate and made threats over the system saying he would be setting up explosives inside of the store and activating them.

Prior to this, Smith had reportedly been threatening to harm himself and others inside of the store, which prompted police to respond to the business on Stafford Lane around 6:45 p.m.

After learning of the bomb threats, police were able to evacuate and secure the store. Police were also able to talk with Smith over the radio and successfully talked him into meeting with officers in person. Smith was then taken into custody without incident.

Smith is being held at the Delta County Jail on a $5,000 bond and has been charged with alleged Menacing and Theft.
