Chicago -- July 2012 is expected to be the Windy City's second- or third-warmest month on record. The city saw 18 days in the 90s last month, bringing the total for the year to 35.
Cincinnati -- This Ohio city experienced its fifth-hottest July on record last month and the hottest since 1936. Four days hit the triple digits and more than 20 were 90 degrees or warmer.
Cleveland -- July 12 is the second-warmest month on record in Cleveland, with 11 days of 90-plus degree heat reported.
Columbus, Ohio -- July 2012 was easily the hottest July on record in Columbus, where the average daily high was 91 degrees.
Denver -- Hottest July on record since July 1936, with seven days of 100-plus degree temperatures last month alone. Average is one or two a year.
Des Moines, Iowa -- July 2012 is this city's second-warmest on record despite 10 days of 100-degree temperatures.
Indianapolis -- Beat the old hottest month record (July 1936) by around a full degree. There were seven days of 100-degree temps, including 105 degrees on July 7 -- tying the second-hottest day on record.
La Crosse, Wis. -- This small western Wisconsin city recorded its hottest July on record, with an average temperature of just under 80 degrees. The normal average is 73.7 degrees.
Louisville, Ky. -- July 2012 was the hottest July on record in Louisville, but it's still second to the warmest month on record set in August 2007.
Milwaukee -- The largest city in Wisconsin recorded its hottest July on record with an average temperature of 78.5 degrees.
Minneapolis -- Only one month has been hotter in Minneapolis weather history -- July 1936.
Philadelphia -- For the City of Brotherly Love, July 2012 was its third-warmest month on record with an average temperature of 81.8 degrees.
Roanoke, Va. -- It was 95 degrees or hotter 10 days in this city last month, and hit the century mark twice, making it the city's hottest July on record.
St. Louis -- The Gateway to the West has not endured a hotter month than July 2012 in around 110 years. The thermometer hit 100 degrees or higher 15 out the 31 days of the month.
Washington, D.C. -- For the nation's capital, the top three warmest months on record have now occurred the last three years in a row in July. Only July 2011 was warmer than this past month.
