DENVER, Colo. Day two of the 2014 state wrestling tournament was filled with emotional upsets and victories, starting with quarterfinals.

Athletes entered into their matches just three wins away from a state title, but those three wins have never been easy to take to the bank.

Though the Western Slope had a strong representation into the quarterfinals, just over 15 wrestlers from Paonia on out to Palisade earned a ticket into the semifinal matches. But once again, not everyone would wrestle their way into the finals.

In 2A, team-leader Paonia once again dominated. They sent seven to the semifinals and five are heading into Saturday's championship matches - Tony Darling, Zach Milner, Ty Coats, Bo Pipher, and Jesse Reed. Those who lost in the semis still have a chance at placing.

In 3A, Olathe's Trenton Piatt will be the lone ranger heading into the final round. He still sits undefeated at 37-0.

In 4A, Palisade's reigning state champion Dalton Hannigan fell 1-0 in the quarterfinals but is still alive heading into Saturday's 3rd place bracket. Still, Palisade has another shot at a state title, this coming from 106-pound Randen Espinoza who defeated Montrose's Terrell Banuelos in the semifinals with a first round pin.

Finally, in 5A, Grand Junction's reigning champ Jacob Trujillo made it look easy, wrestling his way to yet another appearance in the state finals.

The Parade of Champions will be held Saturday at 6:30 PM.
