HS Volleyball: Fruita Monument to host regional tournament

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Fruita Monument volleyball team was the team to beat this year. They posted a 19-4 overall, took the Southwestern League title, and now they have five days to get ready for their biggest test of the season taking place right on their own grounds - the regional tournament .

The Lady Wildcats earned the right to host regionals for the first time in school history. They'll enter as the 10th seed set to play (15) Fort Collins and (27) Grand Junction.

Though they're the highest on the ladder, it won't be an easy task. The Wildcats were able to scout Fort Collins over the weekend, and they bring major height to the court.

As for Grand Junction, anything can happen against a school's biggest rival, but if Fruita comes out on top, it'll be a long-awaited goal for the squad made entirely of seniors.

"The four years I've swung varsity, at least in districts, we have never made it to state," said senior Jordan Eatwell. "We've always been knocked out of regionals from the higher seed that was hosting the regional."

"They've been working really hard this year," said head coach Bob Richardson. "We had three goals at the beginning of the year. It was to win the SWL, we were able to do that, second one was to be able to host a regional because we know that's important to be able to get to state, and the next goal after that is to get to state, so we're hoping to get there."

Saturday's regional tournament will consist of three matches, assuming a winner is decided by that point.
