GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The 2013 SWL All-Conference football selections were announced Monday. The conference champion Grand Junction produced both SWL Players of the Year.
On offense quarterback Tyler Heinsma helped lead his team to an 8-3 finish and the second round of the playoffs. He capped off his senior season with over 1,700 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. Heisnma also rushed for over 1,000 yards and added another 16 touchdowns on his own.
The defensive player of the year honor was given to Tanner Griffin. The senior registered 47 solo tackles and 41 assists. He also put out 4 sacks for a total loss of 41 yards. Griffin recovered 6 fumbles and blocked 2 punts.
Switching teams as Montrose's head coach Todd Casebier was named the SWL's Coach of the Year. This year marked his ninth season with the team. The Indians were in the top of the rankings the majority of the season and made their way to the state title game where they finished as Class 4A's runner-up.
