GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Although the Grand Junction Rockies didn't qualify for the playoffs in the first half of the regular season like they did a year ago, they were still able to end the season with a win, topping the Orem Owlz 6-3.
Not only did that improve their league-high win streak to five, but also was their 23rd win of the season, which is the most in franchise history in the first half of the season.
The Rockies will now look to qualify for the playoffs by winning the second half of the season. If they have the most wins in the south division of the Pioneer League in the second half, they will earn a post-season spot. If Orem wins again, the team with the next-most wins over the entire season will get the spot.
Saturday night's win was important for just that reason, as they hold a three-game advantage over Idaho Falls, and eight games over Ogden.
The second half of the season begins on Sunday as the Rockies host the Owlz again before traveling to Orem on Monday for a two-game set.
