GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Colorado Mesa Mavericks are back at Stocker Stadium Saturday afternoon taking on one of the most prolific offenses in the Rocky Mountain Conference - the Colorado School of Mines.
However, the Mavs aren't too threatened by what's to come. After all, they've posted the most impressive start since 2008 - bringing in four straight victories to jump to a 4-1 conference record.
They've been able to overcome and discourage multiple offenses with their high-powered defense that ranks number one in the nation in the red zone, second in , and third in turnovers gained.
While their defense was quick to impress, the Mavs offense has been coming together week after week, and last Saturday against Fort Lewis was no different. They posted a shutout victory, their second of the season, and they're ready to keep up the pace
"We're real excited to prove what we've got," said quarterback Aric Kaiser. "Last year versus Mines, it was a tough game, and I wasn't a part of it, but I got to watch it and see what happened, and we just want to go out there tomorrow and show what we are and show how much better we've gotten."
"We have another great opportunity out in front of us against a very good football team," said head coach Russ Martin. It will be an opportunity for us to see just how far we've come, and our objective is going to be to be as good of a football team as we can. Offensively defensively, special teams, and we know they're a very very well coached football team so we have to play well in all phases."
