CMU Basketball: Women clinch RMAC, men on track to make tournament

By  |

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Being ranked in the top five in the country all year long, the conference championship has never really been in doubt for the CMU women's basketball team, but Saturday night they could statistically clinch at least a share of the RMAC title in the tail end of their weekend double header hosting Western New Mexico.

CMU had a 31 point lead at one point before letting it dwindle to single digits in the final ten minutes, but the Mavs do hold on to win 69-58 and win their second straight conference title.

For the men, they were 11-11 overall and 9-9 in the conference entering their game against the Mustangs, who have only won once the entire season.

Led yet again by Ryan Stephen's 23 points, they win it easily 72-45, and are still slotted in eighth in the RMAC, the last spot to make the conference tournament.
