Football alignments set for 2014 CHSAA season


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The 2014 football season is just over one month away from kicking off. Athletes are already working hard through off-season conditioning preparing for changes in leadership, position, seniority, and now leagues.

For the Western Slope only the 3A and 1A Western Slope Leagues remain in tact with just a couple team additions.

As for the 4A/5A Southwestern League? It is now non-existent, while the former 2A Western Slope League has separated into a North and South division. Visit the link for full classification alignments.

Below is an overview of changes for the 2014-2016 cycle:
5A
Fruita Monument absorbed by Continental North
Grand Junction absorbed by South Metro

4A
Montrose absorbed by Foothills
Durango absorbed by Pikes Peak

3A
Western Slope League stays the same, adding Central G.J. following a "play-down" request

2A
Former 8-team Western Slope League splits into a WSL North and WSL South, with six teams in each

1A
Westerl Slope League stays the same, adding Grand Valley
