GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The 2014 Western Slope Pop Warner season is just over one month away, and registration is already in full gear.

Last year marked the first time the nationally recognized program made its way to Grand Junction, and they had a strong turnout for kids ranging from ages 5 to 16 looking to grow in both football and cheer and dance.

Annie Wright, a volunteer and mom, talked about the success of the program and the difference she saw in her son both on and off the field.

"Last year with Pop Warner he became more of a responsible person," said Wright. "He just really looked forward to supporting his team and supporting the community, and Pop Warner is about community. We build on the greatness in all of our youth that already exist in them."

There will be eight games per season, plus local playoffs. Winners advance to regional playoffs with the possibility to advance to nationals.

Registration for the 2014 Pop Warner season will take place this Saturday, June 21st at B&H Sports from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and at Mesa Mall from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. right outside of American Eagle Outfitters. Registrations will also take place at Sports Authority on Saturday, July 12th and 19th from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Individuals can also register online.

The cost is $200 per child with a $25 multi-child discount, but scholarships are available with heavy parent involvement. The fee includes the cost of personal equipment rental of helmet, shoulder pads, and one game jersey to keep.
