GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Whether one of the teams has fallen to the bottom of the rankings or they've held on to a perfect record, the Fruita Monument, Grand Junction rivalry never gets old.

This year the two-game series in basketball kicks off Friday night at Grand Junction High School.

The Wildcats have picked up steam since they started their season, winning 5 of their last 6 games and putting out a 3-1 record in the Southwestern League.

As for the Tigers, they haven't missed too many beats. Currently 13-2 overall while holding a perfect 4-0 league record, they're ready to host Fruita and get the 2014 basketball rivalry started.

"We just come out and play our game, every game," said Trenton Soriano. "It's a league game, so any separation we can get, we think it's an important game.

"At this point we still think it's anyone's league to win," said Devin Winstanley. "There's a bunch of good teams and anything can happen at this point. It's still early in the season."

"It's one game of the year, other than Montrose, that really gets us excited," said DJ Wells. "The whole entire team, the blood gets going, it's a fun game to play."

"[It was a] big game last year," said Brandon Kubic. "We beat them once, they beat us once. We've just got to go out on fire, got to hit our shots, got to hold them, just see how the game ends."

Fruita Monument and Grand Junction girls tip off Friday at 5:30 PM, the boys follow at 7:00 PM.
