GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) As the community continues to grow, another void has been filled with the addition of a Premier Arena Soccer team set to start up this winter.
The PASL is the largest international arena soccer league in the world and is a developmental league for the Professional Arena Soccer League.
Grand Junction's team will be known as the "Skyline Eagles" out of the Skyline Sports Center - coached and managed by former players and coaches to the Grand Junction area.
"I've been playing soccer my whole life, since I was about five years old, and I always wanted to play college soccer," said team member Jeremy Gwerder. "I achieved that goal, and now I just want to move up from college and the next level is semi-professional."
"I think it just provides another aspect of the game," said general manager Stephen Hofer. "Everybody's used to playing 11-on-11 outdoor soccer, and I think the arena game is entertaining in itself, and I enjoy playing it and I think it'll just be another entertaining venue for people to come out and watch a high level team compete."
This Saturday they'll be looking for 24 athletes who fit the bill for their men's team. The Eagles will host open tryouts from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Skyline Sports Center located off Highway 6 and 50.
There will be a $15 tryout fee. The regular season starts December 21st. For more information contact (970) 243-9165 (ext. 803).
