Choice Hotels closes its doors next week
Next week will be the last days of work for as many as 120 employees.
Although Choice Hotels is shutting its doors, it’s given what workers say are important tools to help them with their future.
"I work here and, it was some devastating news," said Greg Kirby, employee of Choice Hotels who will be losing his job next week.
News to Greg and 120 other Choice Hotel employees, that they would all soon be losing their jobs.
"We found out, the corporate people came down and let us know, it was sad to know that so many people would be losing their jobs," said Kirby.
On October 15th Choice Hotels sent out a press release stating that, "The changes are being made in response to evolving technologies and less customer reliance on the services of traditional call centers."
They say it's a consumer behavior change that the company needs to adapt to.
"I think in a situation like this you have mixed emotions of course, I think the hardest thing for us is that we make a lot of friends at work and people here are very much like family, so when you're saying goodbye to people that's the hardest thing," said Pat Morehouse, Director of Customer Services at Choice Hotels.
"This is a sad time for us, no doubt, but there’s a lot of things that the company has done and the community has done to make this better. So we do have out-placement services for all of our associates, there’s a severance package for all of our associates. We've had interviewing and resume writing workshops," added Morehouse.
Morehouse also said that they'll be transferring about 25 employees to their Phoenix location.
"Oh the classes they provided were fantastic, the resume class was great. They’re helping us with job placement, the job fair it was great. So they're doing a good job I think helping us out, helping us find a job to go with," added Greg.
Many folks told us that they're sad to be leaving but look forward to what life has in store for them next.
It's a bitter goodbye to Choice Hotels as they've been here in Grand Junction since 1989.
