GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a Glenwood Springs woman has died about 18 hours after she was shot.
The Garfield County coroner says 40-year-old Audrey Lowndes died at a Grand Junction hospital shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police responding to reported shooting found her at about 12:30 a.m. that day.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reported Wednesday Lowndes' boyfriend, 28-year-old James McCabe Mallin, was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder shortly after the shooting.
Prosecutors said they hadn't decided whether to upgrade the charges after Lowndes died.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Mallin told police Lowndes was holding a .22-caliber rifle and it fired as he tried take it away.
Online jail records didn't indicate whether Mallin had a lawyer, and no phone number could be found for him.
