MESA COUNTY, Colo. There's only been two offices that haven't had any competition in 20 years: the Mesa County Coroner and Treasurer.
Operations Manager for the Mesa County Elections, Amanda Hilgenfeld, did some research on the Mesa County Coroner position. She said, "We just looked at whether or not that office has been opposed... It's one of the few county offices that have 3 terms."
Two candidates are now running for the Mesa County Coroner's position in the Primary Election set for June 2014. They are Dean Havlik and Robert Kurtzman.
Robert Kurtzman said, "I brought Dr. Halvic here in 2001 and he was a good addition to the office and we have been working together. There are some good opportunties I see and i'm interested in jumping back in."
Kutzman says he brought forensic pathology to Mesa County back in 1992 and served as the Mesa County Coroner from 1998 to 2006. Then Havlik took over in 2007. We reached out to Havlik for comment, but he wasn't available for an interview.
Mesa County voters should expect their primary ballot for this election in the mail in June.
