De Beque talks pot

DE BEQUE, Colo. De Beque crossed its biggest hurdle on April 1st of this year.

With a majority vote from its residents, officials were given the green light to bring recreational marijuana to the town.

Monday night's meeting was all about fine tuning this decision, in order to see this new industry begin to blossom in De Beque.

The board of trustees voted on where recreational marijuana shops will be allowed to set up shop and on licensing regulations that will be enforced in the municipality.

Residents were given up to three minutes to voice their opinions on the ordinances at hand.

"Both sides have been very, they've advocated for their sides, they've done it in a polite and constructive way, and it's been great to see,” says town manager, Guy Patterson.

Over thirty people were in attendance at Monday’s night’s meeting.

Ordinance 443 that allows recreational pot shops both downtown and on the frontage road and Ordinance 444 that builds licensing off state laws were passed.

Recreational pot shops will not be allowed within 1000 feet of schools or places of worship.

Although both ordinances were passed after Monday night's vote, the moratorium on recreational pot shops will be extended until August 1st.
