"Lion of the Year" an example of community service

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Grand Junction Lions Club is honoring a member who has gone beyond the organization's requirements for community service.

Reford Theobold has been named the 2014 Grand Junction Lion of the Year after 28 years of membership.

The honor has been awarded for more than 50 years to members who have helped the community through the Lions Club and outside of it.

"The list of past recipients is very impressive," said Bob Vanderstine, the 2013 Lion of the Year recipient. "There's a lot of real serious people in our community who have contributed a tremendous amount."

The Grand Junction Lions club raises money at its annual carnival in February and other events. It contributes about $200 thousand a year to community organizations.
