The Mesa County Sheriff's Office updates technology

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A new grant helps the Mesa County Sheriff's Department update its technology.

Funding from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado Department of Public Safety will bring two new live scan machines to the sheriff's department.

The commissioners approved the funding on Monday.

"We're trying to update the technology and get new machines and what these machines do, is they take electronic fingerprints rather than the old ink and paper prints," says Captain Don Hendricks of the Mesa County Sheriff's office.

With this new system, the Mesa County Sheriff Department can send electronic prints to all the law enforcement agencies that may need them for proceedings.

Technology updates are necessary to avoid frequent backups from old fingerprint systems crashing and difficult repairs.
