MESA COUNTY, Colo. A night under the stars turned dangerous when two adults got lost walking in Escalante Canyon Sunday night.
The adults were camping when the bad weather caused their vehicle to get stuck. They decided to take a walk and eventually got lost, forcing them into a makeshift shelter for the night.
Local dispatch received a call about the two lost individuals Sunday night but were unable to find them in the dark. Monday morning they were easily found by a volunteer CenturyLink helicopter.
The individuals were escorted back to their vehicles and out of the canyon by deputies, and there was no need for medical attention.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office would like to remind all persons who plan on going hiking, or camping to not rely on their cellphones, dress for weather, and have an adequate supply for food and water. As a reminder, do not leave anything of value in vehicles while they are not attended, or leave them at home.
