A Mesa County belly dancing group hopes to raise $5,000 from a yard sale to help domestic violence victims.

The Shimmy Mob, a Mesa County belly dancing group, hosts a yard sale for the Latimer House.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. This weekend a Grand Junction belly dance group is asking residents to shake out their change for the Latimer House. They are holding a yard sale that will continue through tomorrow selling used goods as well as snacks. All proceeds will go to help people affected by domestic violence.

Last year the organization raised $4,000 with the event and this year their goal is to beat that number and raise $5,000.

"Domestic violence is something that is a horrible experience to go through and these women and sometimes men need to have somewhere safe to go if they're in danger," Shimmy Mob team member Kimberly Bryant said.

The shimmy mob has 37 members and they have been in Mesa County for about three years. The group is an extension of a larger branch that started in Canada to help raise money for local domestic violence shelters.

The group will continue to raise money by dancing at events around the Grand Valley.
