MESA COUNTY/ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. Embattled Senator Steve King will face five charges arising out of his falsified time card scandal that led to his dropping out of the race for Mesa County Sheriff.
The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office filed a complaint with the Mesa County District Attorney after a three week investigation.
“I think what’d you’d find if you look at the Colorado criminal code, that by and large first time offenders, especially on property crimes the way our system is set up, don't face mandatory incarceration type sentences. That is not unusual frankly coast to coast in the united states, but it really true here in Colorado,” says D.A. George Brauchlet.
He is summoned for a court date on August 18th at 8 A.M. in Mesa County, and further legal proceedings will be largely dependent on Senator King's decision to seek or forego legal counsel.
The lead prosecutor on the case will be Assistant District Attorney, Mark Hulbert of the 18th Judicial District.
