DENVER (AP) An investigation is underway after police shot and critically injured a knife-wielding man accused of trying to assault an officer at a southeast Denver apartment complex.
Sgt. Steve Warneke tells The Denver Post that officers were called to the apartment complex at about 9 a.m. Friday on reports of a suicidal man with a knife. The sergeant says the man, whose name has not been released, was shot after police tried numerous times to subdue him with less-lethal force.
Warneke declined to say how many times the officer fired.
The Denver District Attorney's Office will review the shooting to determine if it was justified.
