PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. After routine testing at the Pitkin County Courthouse Plaza revealed Asbestos in some building materials, the Plaza will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday for air quality morning.
The testing is being done as a precaution, and all offices including the Clerk and Recorder, Housing, and Open Space and Trails will be closed through Wednesday.
“It is not uncommon to find Asbestos in materials used in older buildings,” said Pitkin County Facilities Manager, Jodi Smith. “It’s not considered dangerous unless it’s disturbed. That’s why we always do these inspections prior to any major construction project."
The location for the meeting for the Board of County Commissioners has yet to be determined. To find out where it will be visit the link to the right.
