GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. From Memorial Day to Labor Day in 2012, nearly 1,000 people lost their lives in accidents involving teen drivers and more than half of those killed were teenagers.

Colorado State Patrol officials say because of how inexperienced they are it's hard to tell the difference between teen drivers and drunk drivers.

Teens hit the road more often during the summer months and they're not alone authorities say their friends in the car are a big distraction along with checking their phones.

If your child is a new driver consider chauffeuring them around this summer to keep them out of harms way.
