World's best Donkey Kong players compete in Denver
"It's on like Donkey Kong" for a dozen competitors hoping to be named the best at the classic Japanese video arcade game.
The Kong Off II at The 1up arcade and bar in Denver on Saturday and Sunday will feature some of the swiftest fingers in the world.
Included in the Donkey Kong competition are last year's winner and world record holder Hank Chien (a.k.a. The Dr. of Kong), former world record holder Steve Wiebe, player of the century Billy Mitchell, Donkey Kong Junior world record holder Mark Kiehl and Popeye world record holder Benjamin Falls.
A $2,000 prize is at stake.
Donkey Kong debuted in the United States in 1981 and features a girl-crazy ape who slings barrels at the well-known character Mario from atop several levels of scaffolding.
