Authorities say a woman being taken to a southern Utah jail ended up stealing the patrol car and leading officers on a high-speed chase.
The Washington County sheriff's office says the escapade ended when a deputy shot the woman during a standoff Monday night. An update on her condition was not immediately available Tuesday morning.
Deputies say the woman had been arrested and was taken to a jail Monday evening. But officials say she pulled out a weapon as an officer attempted to take her out of the cruiser, and she drove off in a police vehicle.
Authorities say they put down spike strips in Hurricane to stop the vehicle, but the woman did not surrender. She was then shot during a standoff.
The incident is under investigation.
