Fire crews say the Weber Fire burning near Mancos was human caused as they began getting a handle on the flames Monday.
Officials estimate about 10% containment of the blaze mapped out to be about 8,300 acres. It is currently threatening about 60 homes which are under mandatory evacuation orders.
Crews originally thought more than 100 homes were inside the fire's perimeter, but better data has lowered that number considerably. Still, more than 400 other families, including the entire town of Mancos, are on stand-by to leave.
Monday, fire crews constructed and improved the west perimeter line and will continue to overnight with the help of infrared mapping.
Firefighters tell us hot and dry conditions helped fuel significant fire activity through the day, but light winds minimized its reach.
