Some Mesa County voters are asking House District 54 candidate Jared Wright to drop out of the race.
The request comes because of controversy around Wright’s work record and personal bankruptcy.
Monday, thousands of people, including Wright supporter Alan Story, heard one man’s opinion of Wright from their phones.
"Look what he's going through now, all these accusations," Story said.
Come election time, Story knows he wants to vote Jared Wright for House District 54.
He says, "I just think he will serve our state better than anybody else will just by the way I know him. I think he will be a fine representative for our state."
Monday, just like over 6,000 other voters in Mesa County, Story got a message requesting him to ask Wright to withdraw from the race immediately.
The message says, "The republican party has time to legally name a new candidate. We should be focused on defeated Barrack Obama but instead Jared Wright continues to embarrass our party on the front pages of the Daily Sentinel. His unethical behavior as a police man and his unwillingness to take responsibility for his own actions speaks volumes about his inability to represent us in Denver."
The voice behind the message is concern conservative, Alex Chaffetz.
"We have a party leadership that feels like their hands are tied and can't say anything, so I felt it was my responsibility as a constituent, as a concerned conservative republican, to let Jared know that it is time to step out of this race and be able to have the vacancy committee put a qualified candidate on the ballot in November,” Chaffetz said. “He gave every indication that he's going to stay in the race so I paid for a call to go out."
At the end of the message, Chaffetz says, "I’m Alex Chaffetz and I personally paid for this message because we need a proven, trust worthy representative and the state capital. That ain’t Jared Wright."
Chaffetz says he's getting plenty of support, but Story believes what Chaffetz did wasn't a good move.
"Alex just doesn’t have it right at all and I think he's doing the wrong thing,” Story said. “He’s hurting the republican party by calling Jared to step down."
