Olympic gold medal-winning skier Lindsey Vonn was injured during a race in Austria Tuesday.
Vonn was airlifted to a hospital for treatment after what's described as a "serious crash."
The incident took place during the opening day of the Super-G event at the F.I.S. Alpine Ski World Championships.
Doctors say Vonn tore her anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in the crash.
She is also said to have broken a bone during the crash.
The U.S. Ski Team says Vonn will have surgery and will miss the rest of this season but is expected to return for the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She's a four-time overall World Cup winner.
Vonn is perhaps best known for her Olympic gold and bronze medals at the 2010 games in Vancouver.
