GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

After less than two years on the job, Chantal Unfug has stepped down as the Mesa County Administrator.

The resignation was announced Tuesday afternoon in a brief email statement by Mesa County Commissioner Steve Acquafresca.

The statement reads simply: "The Board of County Commissioners and Chantal Unfug have come to mutual agreement on her resignation as County Administrator. We want to thank Chantal Unfug for her leadership and wish her well in her future endeavors."

Unfug, who had taken the position in the summer of 2011 had previously worked for the City of Denver and had held leadership positions on the state and local level in the past, before moving to the Western Slope to take on the position of County Administrator.

Commissioner Acquafresca also released this statement naming Tom Fisher as the interim County Administrator:

"Tom Fisher will be Interim Administrator, as the County progresses through the next months.  During this time we want to be working together with citizens of our County to solidify the Board’s strategic direction and decide what County leadership will best help the Commissioners reach their goals."
