Tanker rolls off of Hwy. 141
GATEWAY, Colo. -

A semi tanker rolled over a guard rail on Highway 141 in the Unaweep Canyon Friday just before 7:00 a.m.

The truck went into West Creek, leaking 8,000 gallons of diesel fuel, according to authorities.

The driver was heading southbound when he hit the guard rail after making his way around a corner. The diesel caught fire to the truck and the canyon as well.

KJCT was at the scene Friday morning and saw volunteer firefighters from Gateway and Lands End mopping up hot spot from the fire.

A HazMat crew was also responding to the situation.

The driver was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with unknown injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol and Mesa County Sheriff's deputies are investigating to see if speed or weather were factors in the crash.

Traffic is slow moving and you're asked to avoid the area if possible.
