GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

For the children and families of members of the military, life can be difficult especially during the holidays.

That's why the National Guard tries each year to make the holidays a little brighter for these families by holding its annual "Toys for Tiny Soldiers" event.

The National Guard has been collecting toys for children from any military family for three holiday seasons now.

Last week they asked for the communities help for more toys, as they had about half the amount of last years numbers.

The community certainly responded and came through with over two thousand toys for this years charity.

Sergeant April Nolan says she holds the event close to her heart.

"To be able to do it with the military is even more heartfelt for me because this is like my second family, so being able to be here and do that with all of our  military, or for our military service members, our veterans can shop this year, so it does hit home for me," said Nolan.

About 60 children came through today, picking out at least three toys to take home and enjoy for the holidays.
