Tips on what drivers can do to prepare for snow and ice on the roadways

Winter weather is arriving across western Colorado and for many of us, it'll be the first time this season that we'll have to drive in it. Snow and ice pose different hazards for drivers during the winter months.

With this storm already dumping snow in the higher elevations, it reminds us that winter is arriving and we need to be prepared to encounter the snow and ice on the roadways.

With the high country forecasted to get up to two feet of snow by tomorrow and most people on the western slope seeing snowflakes as well, it's important that you're car is ready for the snow.

“Well you definitely want to make sure you've got good snow tires on… good all season tires. As far as sliding, just make sure that your brake systems are working good” explained Cody Davies of Big O Tires.

C-DOT also wants to remind everyone that you should always keep your gas tank at least half full. If for some reason you become stranded, you can run your engine periodically to keep warm. Everyone should also keep emergency supplies in their car including blankets, flashlights, water, a shovel, and some nutrition bars or other food.
