GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

Many people, both young and old, headed up the mountain to Powderhorn today for one reason…

"Snow, opening day"

Gabrielle Michna, Sales & Marketing Manger of Powderhorn Resort said, "Today is our opening day celebration, its superhero Saturday, as you can tell from all of our costumes, and we're welcoming in our 2012-1013 ski and ride season"

It's finally arrived; opening day at Powderhorn and fittingly enough with it came the snow.

Randy Stouder, skier at Powderhorn said, "When I looked at the snow report this morning it said 6 inches of fresh, and we just came down equalizer and it's more like 10, 14. It’s fantastic, light and beautiful."

It wasn't just skiers on the slopes today, general manager of Powderhorn ski resort, Daren Cole, was also out on the mountain enjoying the fresh snow.

Cole said, "I couldn't be more excited. this is the time of year where you just get goose-bumps, you plan all summer, you're waiting all fall for the storms, and especially a year like this where the snows been hit and miss, it's so exciting to see the snow gods be so kind to us on opening day. It's a very exciting day and hopefully our guests are excited as we are. And we're really looking forward to a great season this year."

Cole adds that he's excited about this year’s new and improved events schedule

"The other thing we're really focused on is events, family focused events so every weekend you'll see costume contests like we have going on here, we'll have food and great music out on the deck, so lot's of great things along those lines," added Cole.

They've also added three new runs off chair-lift two, as well as a Barbeque station, a tubing lane and a café.

As for the snow bunnies, they love every second of it.

"Oh yeah, I'm having tons of fun, I've been coming here since I was in 6th grade, so about 6 years, at least a couple good inches of powder out there, it's probably the best opening day I've seen so far," said Dylan Strattman at Powderhorn.
