'What is Bighorn Sheep habitat worth? What is elk habitat worth? What is turkey habitat worth?' you know, economically?  What are recreational values worth, dollars-wise?" Hebein asked. 

The fight is fueled, in part by taxpayer dollars but foundations and grants are also being utilized.  Many organizations are also teaming up to share resources. 

"There's not a single entity that can handle it themselves, so when you partner together, you get a lot more bang for your buck when it comes to doing this kind of work," Taber said. 

As the battle continues, those in the fight agree that the cost is worth it to keep balance and diversity of the environment that keeps it healthy and usable.
