Tessa Kester - Athlete of the Week
One of the best gymnasts in the state of Colorado trains right here on the Western Slope.
Tessa Kester finished 2nd in the all-around competition at the State Tournament recently, and now has aspirations toward possibly winning at the upcoming regional tournament in Dallas.
"It's a big, seven state, competition and I'm going in just really hoping to get on the podium and I really really hope to make it to nationals for my second year," says Kester.
She finished third at last year's competition, but her coaches feel she can improve upon it this year.
"Her routine is much stronger, much cleaner, and more difficult this year so if she can totally hit it at the nationals, I think we can bring home a national title," said Kidsplex Gymnastics Coach Brian Bensley.
Tessa will need a top 12 finish in Dallas to qualify for the national tournament.
"It's going to take a lot of effort and a lot of clean cut gymnastics. I think that I have a pretty good chance to make it. I've just been working so hard and I think I can make it," says Kester.
She will miss her prom in order to compete, but feels winning a title is worth it. Her coaches are always impressed by her dedication.
"She's just been a joy to work with. She's always positive, always hard working," says Bensley.
