Sneak peek of Mesa County Library renovation
Exclusive tour brings cameras inside to get a look at construction
The Mesa County Public Library in Grand Junction has been functioning at a temporary location since August.
But Thursday, KJCT got an exclusive look at the progress on the remodel..
The steel just went up for the frame and workers are pouring concrete.
9,000 square feet were added to the building, and some of the highlights include an east entrance that will connect to the existing one on the west side, creating a grand hallway in the library.
An event room will also be added for public and community gatherings, along with a new reading room.
Public Information Manager for the library, Bob Kretschman explained, "The area along Grand Avenue is going to have a reading room in it that is going to have a nice bank of windows that will look out on the downtown area with the Colorado National Monument in the distance. There'll be an kind of an elevated mezzanine."
Kretschman also says he's excited to move back into the building.
The current temporary location is in the old Ashley Furniture building on 1st Street just north of Grand Ave.
The project is on track and should be finished by late spring.
