Police say everyone should be cautious
A recent scam involving magazine subscriptions has been targeting Colorado Mesa University students. But Grand Junction police say everyone should be cautious.
According to police, several college students have reported being scammed out of hundreds of dollars by people claiming they're selling magazine subscriptions.
What makes the scam even more distasteful, the fraudulent salesperson is trying to get your money by claiming it's going to fundraisers for various non-profit organizations and charities.
Police report the the scammer tells the students to pay for the magazine subscription up front, then to take the receipt to Colorado Mesa University to have the money reimbursed.
Police say it's important to know exactly who you are dealing with before you hand over any money. You should ask for identification and possibly research the background of the group the person claims to be fundraising for.
