The Salvation Army hosted its annual thanksgiving dinner today at the Elk’s Lodge, where more than 1,700 people showed up for a hot meal.

Not only did it take months of preparation and donations to get ready for the big dinner, but also over 100 turkeys, around 50 trays of gravy and lots of generous volunteers to make the perfect thanksgiving feast.

Many folks at the meal said they're incredibly thankful for what the Salvation Army has done for over a hundred years.

"The salvation army has been a big thing in my life for many years because I lived during the depression and they were there for us many times when I was a little girl."

"The Salvation Army is a wonderful organization they are always serving other people and looking for ways to serve, I just can't say enough about them, they're wonderful."

The Salvation Army is very happy with the turn out for today’s meal, but says it'll be right back to work to prepare for its Christmas dinner.

Officials also add that they're looking for more volunteers to help out with upcoming holiday events.
