Robinson challenges electoral participation

Dan Robinson, a candidate running for House District 55, is challenging the way Colorado conducts its electoral college participation.

Robinson was at City Hall in Grand Junction Friday afternoon to talk about the issue Coloradans face.

Robinson said, "After a presidential election, everybody's divided 49/51. So this idea is about the electoral vote of Colorado being apportioned based on the popular vote for each Congressional District."

By revising Colorado's legislature, it would give voters on the Western Slope a chance for their voices to be heard, even if more votes are coming in from other areas of the state, according to Robinson.

"It's a system of fairness and it concerns me that as our country and our state becomes more and more divided 50/50, this is a way of giving the minority votes, in every state [and] in our Congressional District, an electoral vote for the president that they choose," Robinson added.

He said other states use a similar method and he would like to see Colorado's legislature follow suit.

If elected as a state representative, he said he would explore the issue further.
