Restaurants offer food discounts to Veterans
"We're doing a free all you can eat pancakes for our veterans this morning," said manager of Denny’s, Nanette Liverman.
"Well I'm going to eat as many pancakes, as I can handle," said Veteran and local, Larry Caskey.
No matter where you turned Monday, veterans were being recognized, and plates full of hot food were being served with a full helping of appreciation.
Mark Tilley, manager of Texas Roadhouse and Veteran said, "We're offering them a free meal today, it's something we've done now for three years and it's just a way of giving back"
Veterans we talked with applauded the gesture.
"It makes me feel good, it makes me feel appreciated as a veteran," said veteran Don Riggle.
JoAnne Allen, Veteran and Grand Junction local said, "It makes me feel proud that I've served my country, and that people are out who are willing to do these sort of things for us, because it's something that's American and patriotic and I feel very blessed"
Veteran and Grand Junction local, Larry Caskey said, "I think it's wonderful I want to thank everyone for doing that, of course I remember the time when you worse a uniform you were a target, so it's kind of nice to have these things going on."
Offering up the meals takes on special meaning for Mark Tilley, the manager of Texas roadhouse.
Tilley said, "It’s extremely gratifying, I'm a veteran myself, so be able to give back and give time a little bit, I think it's great"
Larry added, "I really appreciate all the business's and organizations doing this, I hope I just don't gain a hundred pounds between now and the end of the holidays"
