Residents urge judge to reject uranium mill
Residents of Telluride, Ridgway and Grand Junction are urging an administrative judge to reject a proposed uranium mill in the Paradox Valley.
In testimony on Monday, residents said the mill proposed on 880 acres south of Naturita could contaminate water supplies, pollute landfills and cause cancer.
Supporters say the mill will bring jobs and help communities grow.
The judge will decide whether the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment should issue a new permit for the mill proposed by Energy Fuels Inc.
A lawsuit filed by opponents forced the Colorado health department to hold a new public hearing on a license it issued for the mill because of claims the previous hearings were insufficient.
