The report of a gunman on MIT’s campus in Boston was a hoax, according to authorities.
The unfounded report, saying a gunman was inside the main building on campus came from an "electronic message" sent to Cambridge police around 7:30 Saturday morning.
The report sparked a lock down and an immediate search of the building.
Cambridge police said officers searched for a man reported to be carrying a long rifle and wearing body armor but found nothing suspicious.
Authorities said they had no doubt the report was false.
