GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -

A refrigeration failure at Safeway on Patterson Road in Grand Junction has led to a big mess for store staff.

Last night, between 9pm and 10pm some type of electronics blew out on the roof, shutting down refrigeration to the entire store.

All product was pulled from shelves and destroyed as of very early this morning.

Parts were brought in to fix the refrigeration system, and workers spent the day cleaning out the now-empty refrigerators and freezers. Therefore, any refrigerated or frozen food was unavailable today.

Safeway Director of Public Relations, Kris Staaf says thousands of dollars in product were lost, and the company is working quickly to restock as soon as they can, awaiting shipments of food to come into the store.

She emphasizes that everything was cleaned and sanitized, but did say there is a very slim chance someone may have purchased something very early this morning (around 5am) that could have spoiled.

Staaf says if that is a concern of yours, you can bring in that food and Safeway will gladly refund your money.
