We're breaking records here in Grand Junction, people may not be thrilled about it, but this morning we dipped down to 12 below zero!

The last time it was this cold on this date was in 1968- when the temperature hit 7 below.

Meteorologist Eddie Sheerr tells us this is the coldest winter since 2009 and 2010.

The Grand Valley has received more snow so far this year than during all of last winter combined.

With over a foot of snow so far, people are getting fed up with old man winter.

"I've just been staying inside. I have to work tonight, I don't want to go outside and it's slow because I'm a waitress, so not a lot of people are going out to eat. It's too cold,” said Kylie Larson.

"It's not too bad for me, I'm used to the cold," said another Grand Junction resident.

Melissa Deleon of Grand Junction said, "I just moved here about three months ago from Alaska, and this is even colder than Alaska, everybody told me it was going to be in the 50's but this is cold!"

The inversion isn't the cause of today’s record breaking temperatures- it's just plain cold outside.

However the inversion will play a part come mid-week, and is likely to hang around for another week after.

Hopefully you got a nice warm jacket or mittens for Christmas this year because sub-freezing temperatures are expected to hang around through at least next weekend.
